"Where Every Animal Is Special"
Goats
We began raising goats in 1997 when Teri, our youngest child, was found to be allergic to cow's milk. We started with a grade Alpine/Nubian cross doe who was an excellent milker. Our next addition was a registered Nubian buck, The Schenck's Sir Napoleon Jr., who became our foundation herdsire and can still be found on our Nubian does' pedigrees. After acquiring Junior, we began raising purebred registered and percentage Nubian goats. We hand-milked the does and bottle raised all kids. When Junior died, we bought a new buck, K-Judel Mighty Nero, a nephew of Junior's. Nero can also be found on many of our does pedigrees. Due to changes in the goat market and with our older children out of school and into college, we found that we did not have the time to direct attention to our dairy goats and switched our focus to percentage Boers.
We are so excited to bring "Highway" to our herd-- this buck is as impressive in the field as he is on paper. Highway is long, wide through the chest and over the top, and carries a massive forearm. He was bred by MAC Goats, now of Winona, Missouri, and was born March 2, 2006. He boasts an outstanding pedigree-- he is the son of Downen R33 "Hoss" *Ennobled*, grandson of CNR Pistolero *Ennobled* and Downen N24 *Ennobled*, and a great grandson of Dow "Pipeline" *Ennobled* and EGGS P653 "Jubilation" *Ennobled*. Thank you to Joe Braun (JAS11 Boer goats) of Prairie-Du-Rocher, Illinois, for this great addition! We will be using Highway on our own percentage doe kids beginning March of 2010.
"Huey" is a fullblood buck bred by Tom Pryor and Anthony Spurgeon born March 3, 2006. He shows great conformation and carries an impressive pedigree as a grandson of Downen N17 *Ennobled*, who brings "Pipeline" *Ennobled* to his papers, and subsequently, our herd.
~*~*Our Spring '09 kidding season is over, and we couldn't be more happy with the results! Huey has stamped all of his kids with strong toplines, excellent length, and correct structure. Scroll down to see them!*~*~
"Sugar" is a two year old tan headed Boer cross doe. She produced and raised twins in 2008. She was purchased from Shorts in Hartsburg, MO. She has a beautiful dairy type udder.
~*~* Sugar is again bred to Huey *~*~
~*~*Sugar's kids were born February 27th. *~*~
Please see "Parsley" and "Rosemary," listed below.
"Ginger Spice" is a three year old Boer cross commercial doe that we purchased February 2010. She came to us with "King Julien" at side. She has four correct functioning teats. We are very excited to breed her to Highway for September kids (2011 show wethers).
~*~*See Ginger Spice's kid, King Julien, listed in 2010 Show Wethers*~*~
Tranquil Haven Lady Quinn
We are so glad to welcome "Quinn" back to our farm. We originally purchased her as a doeling from Ann Owen of Middletown, MO, in order to retain our Junior/Nero herdsire bloodline. However, when we temporarily focused on our sheep, we sold Quinn back to Ann. Now that we are returning to goats, we purchased her again for a milk doe. Quinn is a very feminine purebred registered Nubian born May 9, 2004.
~*~*Quinn's kids were born March 23rd.*~*~
Please see "Cassia," listed with the does.
"Lane" and "Avenue" are two of our newest additions. These girls are sisters, out of a set of quadruplets. Both are wide and long, with great toplines and excellent capacity. They are Fullblood and have a fantastic pedigree-- Lane and Avenue are out of our new buck, MAC V396 "Highway," and a MAC doe. Pistolero, Hoss, EGGS Jubilation, Starski, and EGGStreme are just some of the Ennobled goats behind them. Thank you to Joe Braun (JAS11 Boer goats) of Prairie-Du-Rocher, IL for these two girls!! We are planning to breed them to Huey in April 2010 for our first Fullblood kids.
Cassia (pronounced KASH-uh) is a light red headed traditional doeling. She is out of Quinn and Huey and was born March 23rd, 2009. We believe she will be an excellent wether dam. She is showing tremendous length and a strong topline, as well as firm, solid muscle. Cassia 50% percentage Boer registered.
Rosemary is a deep red traditional doeling. She is out of Sugar and Huey and was born February 27th, 2009. She also exhibits the strong topline and length that all of Huey's kid do. We are very excited about her excellent pigment and body capacity. We think she will make an excellent brood doe. Rosemary is 50% Percentage Boer registered, doe raised, and horned.
"Fantasia" is a beautiful February 2009 LaMancha doeling. She is from an Amish dairy, and we expect great milk production. She is black/tan with a large white belly band and gopher ears, giving her an unusual appearance. We can't wait to begin showing her and look forward to seeing her kids and milking ability. Fantasia is Native on Appearance recorded with the ADGA.
Minnie is a dwarf pygmy doe. She was born May 5th, 2004. She is a caramel headed white. Minnie serves no purpose on our farm other than a great pet. She weighed 1.7 lbs at birth and was a triplet to normal sized sisters. She had to be tube fed for a week and lived in our house for a month. She is now about 14 inches tall and a fat 35 pounds. She has been spayed. She is our resident pet.
Arthur is a nine year old white LaMancha wether. He was Tora's first bottle baby that she rescued from the sale barn as a sickly kid. After nursing him back to health, we sold him to a pet home. Nine years later, Arthur came back to us to live out the rest of his life as our "buddy goat," living with anyone who needs a friend for awhile.
Crush is a December 4th, 2009 wether, bred by Lazy Raven Ranch in Woodhull, IL. He is out of Serious Damage *Ennobled* and is a grandson of Collateral Damage *Ennobled*. He was one of Tora's market wethers for the 2009 season.
