"Where Every Animal Is Special"
Mini Equine
These little guys are a favorite part of our farm. We have owned and raised horses for ten years, but we were forced to sell our large equine in 2004. We missed our horses, pony, and donkey terribly, but that was suppressed when these two entered our life. They opened a whole new experience for us, and we are very thankful to all who have helped us with them. We are especially grateful to Leonard Phillips, who gave them to us.
Star is a delicate sorrel mare, showing excellent miniature horse conformation. She is roaning lightly, given her a beautiful dark strawberry roan color. She was born May 8th, 2002, bred by Robert Hopp of Versailles, MO. Star is coming along very nicely in her training; she will soon be pulling a cart with ease.
Fern is an adorable molly mule, born June 9th,
2008, out of Star and Burritto. She is a brown-gray dun, complete with plenty of
primitive markings (dorsal, cross, and lots of leg stripes).
Racing stripes one week Four and a half months
"Burritto" ("little donkey" in Spanish) is a chocolate gelding born May 5, 2005, bred by Pleak Farms of Oakland, IA. Burritto will begin his cart training when Star is completely broke. We are already working with ground training to ready him for the cart.
"Wildfire" is a sorrel gelding out of Star by Streakin' 2 B Wild ("Reggie"), a sorrel overo stallion. Fire was born March 2007. He's doing very well with his ground training and we hope to break him to be ridden by small children and to pull a cart.
While he's certainly not miniature, Scirocco deserves a place on our site as well. He is a 1999 Paint/Foundation Appaloosa gelding that was born here on the farm. Tora raised and trained him, and showed in 4-H until we had to sell all of our big horses in 2004. Scirocco went with a first right of refusal condition, and in September of 2007, Tora was able to buy him back. Scirocco stands about 15.1 hands and has competed in several speed events and western pleasure. He is quite cowy and loves to move all animals. He was used to rope young calves and foals, and began his cowboy mounted shooting training at his previous home.
