Border Collie Testimonials

In the past years of raising and rescuing Border Collies, we have maintained contact with the new owners. We are always delighted to receive updates on any of our dogs and we love to see current pictures.  Several of our new friends have offered to act as references and are willing to answer any question that potential owners may have.

Puppies

Janie's Hammie

Without exaggerating, I can say that Hammie is probably the best dog I have ever owned.  He is healthy, smart, energetic, super focused, extremely athletic, gorgeous, and very affectionate, and he has character that I have never seen in a dog before.  If a dog can be perfect, then he is perfect.  One day I will add another Border Collie to my family and I can truly say that I would only buy another one from Eriphos farm.   I just know first hand what kind of dogs she produces and I trust her to sell me a healthy, great tempered, dog that is suited for the kind of things I want to do.  And with all of the questionable breeders out there today, that is something.  By the way, Eva was actually recommended to me by someone who had bought one of her pups and was also extremely happy with him.

When I got Hammie from Eriphos farm, he was almost 6 months old.  He came to me trained in basic obedience, with an excellent recall (that he has never lost even when there are a lot of distractions), housebroken, wormed, up to date on all of his shots including rabies and bordetella, and microchipped.  When I took him to my Vet to have a new puppy check up, she couldn’t say enough about how healthy he was, and what great care he had been given by Eva and her family.  She was very impressed as was I.

Hammie is a natural at Frisbee.  He was born knowing exactly what to do, and he loves it better than anything else we do. He has already competed a couple of times and won 2nd place in the Juniors at the Kansas City Disc Dog competition, and 7th (out of 35) at the Dogtoberfest competition.  We will begin training in freestyle this summer.  I can hardly wait!  Our goal is to compete in the Hyperflite nationals next year.  The man that runs the KC Disc Dog club here in Kansas City told me that Hammie is going to be a Frisbee star and I believe it.  I am always amazed by what he can do.

We are also training in Agility.  We are in the last week of our 3rd Agility class right now and he is doing fantastic.  We will start competing in local Agility trials sometime later this year.  I am very excited to see what he can do in that arena.

Hammie also takes sheep herding lessons at Reality Canine in Cameron and is doing very well.  It is a slow process, but one he enjoys very much.  He also LOVES water and spent a good deal of this last summer in the lake.

I would like to share one other awesome aspect of Hammie’s personality.  When we are outside, or training for something, he has so much energy that he can hardly contain himself, but when we are inside and it is time to sit down and relax or watch TV. he becomes a couch potato.  If I am sitting down being still, he will sit next to me and be still.  If I am lying down on my bed watching TV., he is laying down right next to me. Usually upside down wanting a belly rub, but still, being very calm.  He just turned a year old last month and his “off” switch is fantastic.

He truly is a wonderful dog who can do everything and anything and loves doing it!  Keep your eye out for him in future Disc Dog and Agility competitions.  There is no doubt in my mind that this dog is going to shine.

Janie's Gina

Since "GINA"  is approaching her first birthday on Jan 20, I thought I would show you how well she is doing. The picture labeled is from our daily walks on the adjoining golf course.  She goes through her Obedience routine (no instructors, just me) automatically that we reach the first practice green - and doing very good.  I don't think we will enter Obedience Trials, but the discipline and all is good for both of us.
This picture is when we reach home after the daily walk. The door sign and her indoor presence I feel are a deterrent to  housebreakers. Wish I could help with spreading your name as I am so pleased with Gina and continued contact with you. Gina has been and continues to be a very important part of each and every day.  I play indoors with her at least 2 to 3 hours daily and then we take a 30 min walk.  She also has a large yard and adjacent to the street so she can chase the trucks going by BUT from the inside of the fence.

Have a good year.

2010 update on Gina:

Hi – My name is Dean Thompson and today is the 3rd birthday of my Border Collie (Gina) that I purchased from you in March 2007.

I just want to tell you again how pleased I am and have been with Gina. She is such a loving and caring dog – and a companion that I enjoy each and every day.  She is great at sports – she can catch a ball on the first bounce that would shame a professional big league shortstop.  She is good at Frisbees, but not expert as we don’t practice enough.  What she excels at is Soccer. I have a slight slope on the ground in my back yard and I let her have the high ground.  She runs with the soccer ball using her front legs just as a professional does. She will change direction if I get too close to her and dart around me while keeping the ball under control. At 86, I probably am not too much competition for her, but we do enjoy doing this every day for 30 minutes to over an hour.

Again, I am so please with my Gina – partly because you raised such great puppies and your careful breeding.

   Mickey/Nate

Mickey has been a terrific dog. His favorite thing to do is to play ball. He is obediant but sometimes he doesn't listen. He also likes to play with our other dog Sadie. He has a lot of energy but he is very friendly. When he is not playing with his ball, sleeping, or eating, he enjoys playing with sticks, rocks, and chewing on his bone. He is a really good dog.

JACK

Jack is a handsome, classically marked border collie.  He was approximately 5 years old when we got him in May 2008.  Seeing him the first time at the Seals' home, I just knew he would be scooped up right away if for no other reason then his great looks.

While living with the Seals family Jack was treated for Ehrlichia, was altered, had ingrown dew claws removed and became a house dog for the first time in his life.  They also helped him become accustomed to collar and leash for the first time in his life.

Jack is unusual as a border collie in that he is a mellow fellow.  His mellow, easy nature works out very well with my other senior dogs.  He is just the kind of dog we needed although I didn’t know it when I originally met him.  During one visit with Eva and Teri, he rolled on his back for me to pet his belly and I just melted; but at the time I wanted a dog that played ball like my others.  Now that he is our dog, while the others play ball he is happy to roam around the yard, investigating his surroundings.  He enjoys being a member of the family.  He is a people pleaser.  He is a sweet dear fellow and we are so happy that Eva took him in as a rescue.  I am sad that his previous owners lost their farm and want them to know that he is happy and loved in our home.

Jack is shy and introverted, and never wanting to offend man nor beast.  He rarely barks.  He “talks”, ranging from little throaty humming sounds to high pitched tone like an exaggerated yawn when excited.

Jack doesn’t have much interest in doing tricks.  His recall and sit commands are good.  He now catches treats in the air like the other dogs.  He currently shows no interest in the ball or frisbee.  We are still working on leash training.

The first few days with us Jack was a marking machine but that has thankfully stopped.  Marking my husband’s briefcase could have been a major problem but since my husband caught him in the act and gave an appropriate correction, the marking has stopped and they are buddies.

He is sweet and gentle with our granddaughter who was 3 ½ when he came to live with us.

Having been an outside dog most of his life Jack still seems to enjoy his alone time.  When the weather is hot he has his favorite bench to be under in the yard, but he loves being indoors as well.  Thankfully he’s not a mud seeking BC like a few of my other BC’s.

Jack is a wonderful companion dog and we are lucky to have found him.

Lady Cee Cee

I found Cee Cee on the Internet, where Eriphos Farm had listed her for adoption. Eva and her dedication to the breed and to the health and welfare of the dogs that come under her care immediately impressed me. Many times since I have known her she has gone to rescue both Border Collies and Great Pyrenees dogs and puppies under the most trying circumstances. In addition, Eva is involved with providing visiting dogs to a nursing home facility, which speaks volumes for the types of dogs that she has.

The dogs have always been examined and cared for by a veterinarian and all shots and neutering has been done. In addition, she raises puppies in the home so that they know what being in the house means. Both of her girls are involved with the dogs, show them and help their mother with their care and raising them.

In addition, the oldest daughter Tora, has dog sat at my home and is a responsible teenager that I hold in the highest respect. I know that my dog is well taken care and I have no worries leaving her with Tora.

If you are considering purchasing a dog from Eriphos Farm, feel free to contact me at debner@charter.net with any questions or a further reference.

Sincerely,

Donna Ebner
