"Where Every Animal Is Special"
Pets
In addition to the animals we raise, we have many "pets". These animals are greatly loved creatures that we have around for "no reason" other than we enjoy their company. On a visit to our farm, you may meet any of these animals.
Milo is our old barn cat. He was born in June 2000. He no longer lives outside. He has moved to the house due to an autoimmune disease that makes it hard for him to control his body temperature and causes him to lose his hair. Milo is a yellow tabby. We rescued him and his two brothers as twelve week old kittens that couldn't be touched. Milo is now a people kitty. Sadly Milo has outlived his two brothers, Morris and Scooter.
We found these three girls on our road in May 2010. We brought them home with the intent of finding them new places to stay, but it became apparent that they had found their permanent home here. They took Milo's place as our barn kitties, but rather than learning to catch mice, they are largely enjoying their helpings of goat milk and kitten food and sleeping in the shop.
George is our 2011 kitten addition. Mom says NO MORE KITTENS so our yearly drop-offs will need new homes from here on out :-). We found George in our driveway after the UPS man dropped off a load of dog food. We don't know exactly where he came from, but he found his home here. He is a small fellow, but has a big attitude. He enjoys playing with the shop girls and sharing their cat food.
Buddy Bird was hatched in 1999. He is a Quaker Parakeet. He loves to talk, and says about 50 words and phrases. He has learned to associate words and actions, such as "Good night" when lights are turned off. Buddy guards our loft office, so be sure you ask before you head up the stairs!
Baby Bird was hatched in approximately 1991. He is a blue crown conure. He says many phrases (most include a part of his name) such as "Baby Bird!", "B-Bird", and "Hey Baby!". Thank you to Tina Travis for giving him to us!
Willie is a Yellow Naped Amazon. She became a part of the family in July of 2010. Willie was rescued by a concerned man from a basement, where she had been neglected for some time. Willie chews her feathers and thus has no visible tail or wing feathers, and her chest is just downy fluff. Willie keeps us all in stitches with her numerous phrases, such as "Wooooo-ooo-oo a DEAD GUY!" and her honking. She also sings "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" and "The Wheels on the Bus."
Caesarion is a purebred traditional sealpoint Siamese neutered male. He was born March 27th, 2005. He was bred by Belynda Miller of Defiance, MO. Caesarion loves going on his adventures in the front yard, where he may climb a tree or stalk bugs.
Christy is our black and white spayed female house cat. She was born September of 1994. We got her from Laurel Grench, who rescued her from a parking lot in Illinois. Christy is very shy and due to her age, mostly stays hidden away from visitors.
Pip is our blue and white spayed female house cat. We got her from Wanda Twellman of Moscow Mills, MO. Pip was born in 1996. Pip is our resident body warmer and loves to cuddle.
Bo is our boa constrictor. He was born in February 1995 (yes, born as constrictors are live bearers unlike other snakes) and eight feet long. Bo is extremely docile, though startling to many of our visitors. He has gone to many daycares and petting zoos to help educate people that snakes are not to be feared.
"Sneakers" is a blue tabby kitten that Teri adopted from Animal Welfare in Warren County in August 2008. He was born May 28th, 2008, and weighs 16 pounds. He is the king of the household.
Marquee is a calico kitten that Tora received for her 19th birthday. Marquee was born April 2009. She is little but has a great big attitude!!
