Goats
Eriphos Farm has changed focus several times pertaining to goats, with Dairy goats being our first choice. We have also raised Angoras, percentage Boers, and Pygmies. We feel that our goats are top-quality animals and are very special to us. These goats are picked for quality and production.
We began raising goats in 1997 when Teri, our youngest child, was found to be allergic to cow's milk. We started with a grade Alpine/Nubian cross doe who was an excellent milker. Our next addition was a registered Nubian buck, The Schenck's Sir Napoleon Jr., who became our foundation herdsire and can still be found on our Nubian does' pedigrees. After acquiring Junior, we began raising purebred registered and percentage Nubian goats. We hand-milked the does and bottle raised all kids. When Junior died, we bought a new buck, K-Judel Mighty Nero, a nephew of Junior's. Nero can also be found on many of our does pedigrees. Due to changes in the goat market and our older children attending high school, we found that we did not have the time to direct attention to our dairy goats and switched our focus to percentage Boers.
"Huey" is a fullblood buck bred by Tom Pryor and Anthony Spurgeon. He shows great conformation and carries an impressive pedigree as a granson of Downen N17 *Ennobled*, who brings "Pipeline" *Ennobled* to his papers, and subsequently, our herd.
ROK Liberty
"Liberty" is a big framed 75% doe bred by Lillie Hill Farms of Lincoln, CA. We have great hopes for her, as she has produced big, correct wethers in the past. She boasts a strong pedigree, with Kaptein *Ennobled* and "The Doe Maker", and DSM William F. Buckley. She will be bred to Huey for winter kids.
"Ellie" is a high percentage/purebred doe out of JRA1
Agnew's Pocket Change, who is out of Agnew's Cold Hard Cash *Ennobled*.
She is
also exposed to Ash Creek Texas Star for winter kids.
Short's Sugar Baby
"Sugar" is a two year old tan headed Boer Cross doe. She produced and raised twins this year. She was purchased from Shorts in Hartsburg, MO. She has a beautiful dairy type udder and is currently being milked for home use. She will be bred to Huey for winter kids.
We are so glad to welcome "Quinn" back to our farm. We originally purchased her as a doeling from Ann Owen of Middletown, MO, in order to retain our Junior/Nero herdsire bloodline. However, when we temporarily focused on our sheep, we sold Quinn back to Ann. Now that we are returning to goats, we purchased her again for a milk doe. She will be bred for percentage Boer kids. Quinn is a very feminine purebred registered Nubian.
Minnie is a dwarf pygmy doe. She was born May 5th, 2004. She is a caramel headed white. Minnie serves no purpose on our farm other than a great pet. She weighed 1.7 lbs at birth and was a triplet to normal sized sisters. She had to be tube fed for a week and lived in our house for a month. She is now about 14 inches tall and a fat 35 pounds. She has been spayed. She is our resident pet.
For Sale
The following animals are bottle raised kids that we acquire from other farms where the owners do not have time to care for the babies. Teri (age 12) bottles the kids as a fun homeschooling activity. All of the kids have been disbudded, vaccinated, de-wormed, and are weaned, unless otherwise stated.
"Cleo" is a dark chocolate pygmy doe born March 2008. She is very tame and friendly and was bottle fed. She is horned. She will be a small adult.
"Carley" is a black, silver roan, and white pygmy doe born March 2008. She is very tame and friendly and was bottle fed. She is horned. She will be a small adult.
Sheep
Our sheep were primarily used for working our dogs and providing market lambs for 4-H. We used a small mixed herd to meet our needs. Occasionally we have lambs for sale . Due to Tora going away to college this fall we have sold most of our ewes keeping just an old favorite.
"Dorothy" is a 7/8 Dorper ewe. She was our first sheep, given to us as a bottle lamb by Maurice Schipper of Montgomery City, MO. Dorothy is a "hair" sheep, but she shows true Dorper characteristics when she sheds in the summer. Dorothy retains the cape over her shoulders and back, which was used to protect against flies. Dorothy has been bred to a Suffolk ram for winter lambs.
While we don't raise cattle here at the farm, we occasionally have bucket calves for sale. Some are purchased to be shown at the Warren County Fair, while others are winter calves that we take to bottle after being found too cold or weak to keep up with the herd, or were rejected by their mothers.
