Sheep
Our sheep focus has once again changed. Tora has finally gotten her wish and has a registered ram to breed to Dorothy. So we will be experimenting with a small flock of Dorpers. They will be used to work our dogs and raise meat wethers and percentage ewe lambs.
Southwind's Famous Amos Moses
"Amos" is a 92% Dorper ram. He was born February ninth, 2005. He was bred by Southwind Dorpers of Knob Noster, MO. He is heavily muscled and has a good temperament. He will put a lot of muscle on our lambs. All ewes will be bred to him for February 2010 lambs.
"Dorothy" is a 7/8 Dorper ewe. She was our first sheep, given to us as a bottle lamb by Maurice Schipper of Montgomery City, MO. Dorothy is a "hair" sheep, but she shows true Dorper characteristics when she sheds in the summer. Dorothy retains the cape over her shoulders and back, which was used to protect against flies.
For Sale
We recently acquired four wether dam ewes after their owner was in a car accident. These yearling ewes were meant to start a young girl's 4-H herd. They will be great to begin a new flock or as additions to an established herd. They have been recently sheared, vaccinated, de-wormed, and had their hooves trimmed. They are $125 each. Two have been sold. Both ewes are bred to Amos for thick, meaty slaughter lambs.
This
is a speckleface ewe who we believe is Suffolk/Dorset. She has a nice big hip.
This ewe is likely purebred Suffolk. She is long and level over the top and has
a nice clean front.
While we don't raise cattle here at the farm, we occasionally have bucket calves for sale. Some are purchased to be shown at the Warren County Fair, while others are winter calves that we take to bottle after being found too cold or weak to keep up with the herd, or were rejected by their mothers.
